Storyline
9th century Hidden in the Irish countryside is the ancient Abbey of Kells, under the leadership of an authoritarian abbot. The nephew he raised, named Brendan, is a nice and capable boy. He is 12 years old, and he and other monks are working diligently to strengthen the walls of the abbey to protect against Viking raids.
New life awaits Brendan with the arrival of Brother Aidan, a renowned master illustrator and keeper of an unusual, unfinished picture book. Brother Aidan takes the boy under his wing and initiates him into the art of illustration, awakening his incredible interest and amazing talent.
